Our Story

Welcome to my Blog and Creative Studio & Design Shop. I’m Peggy, a Creative Maker-Designer, Interior Decorator/Stylist, DIY Crafter and Self Taught Artist, and lover of “All Things Creative” located in South Carolina.

Through family and friends I was encouraged to start my small business, Sweet Tea Makery, LLC. I am a self-taught artist who enjoys working with acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolor and chalk type paint using a palette knife, brushes and a variety of mixed media materials. I have a Certificate in Interior Decorating and use those lessons, tips and tricks to decorate and design projects around my home and sometimes for family and friends. More recently I have started taking digital hand lettering classes and hope to share some of those projects as well. I am also working on completing my Certification in Painting to Teach One Stroke Acrylic and Oil Painting. I have also completed several Furniture Painting Workshops using Annie Sloan Paint Products, although I am not married to this particular brand, I always continue to explore new brands and techniques that allow me the opportunity to grow and learn every day.

I have a love of Photography, Styling and Decorating Homes, Floral & Wreath Designing, Crafting, Sewing, Antiquing, Baking, Scrap Booking and All Things Paper, Drawing & Painting on Just About Anything: Furniture, Canvas, Walls, YOU NAME IT, I will Paint It! Most importantly I am a Child of God, Wife to Mr. RE”MARK”ABLE my husband, Mark, who helps make all my design ideas come to life, and mother of a very Talented Artist, Graphic Designer and Illustrator, Anderson living in Atlanta GA.

I have an eclectic decorating soul mixing vintage, traditional and modern together in a way that makes your home feel collected, cozy, uniquely you and not staged. My background includes Special Event Planning, Interior Decorating & Styling, Decluttering & Organizing, and Wedding Planning.

I enjoy decorating my southern charm home, hunting for vintage and farmhouse finds, junk ’in, shopping for home decor old and new, up-cycling existing pieces, creating tablescapes, collecting dishes, although I have 15 sets, I still sneak more in when hubby isn’t looking, cookbooks, vintage leather bound books and post cards. I’m a self admitted ribbon and fabric addict who loves hand making bows, sewing my own drapery/pillows and adore handmade gifts and creatively wrapping them. I’m always adding to my eclectic mix of silver serving pieces, milk and mercury glass, and love cocktail boat cruises at sunset, morning coffee on the porch, sweet tea just about any time of day or night, loving on our doggie of 16 years, spending time with old and new friends, Christmas, well ok…I love all holidays, and of course Sweet Tea, hence the name, and living a “Joyful God Filled” life with my love, Mark of 35 years and my precious gift from God, my son Anderson.

I am a Charleston SC (Folly Beach) Native, Let me just say that growing up on a small beach island and surrounded by a charming small southern town was like living a permanent vacation. The smell of the marsh brings back a flood of childhood memories each time I return home to visit. The warm sand between my toes, the sound of waves crashing in the distance, the noises of the marsh life surrounding me just restores my soul. As a child, every night I as I slipped into my bed with windows cracked and the salty air floating in always seemed to give me the best sleep of my life! It seems as though the coastal air takes a hold over me through the night then releases you as the sun rises and fills your body with the warmth of its glow on your skin. Natives call Charleston “The Holy City” and to me it is heaven on earth! You will definitely see some coastal influences in my decorating style I can’t resist but bring in those happy, relaxing, and joyful memories.

After graduating High School, I moved away from the Lowcountry to Columbia, South Carolina and began work at the University of South Carolina where I ended up finding the love of my life who is also a “Lowcountry” native just like me, but grew up on the Isle of Palms, located just a hop skip and jump from my own tiny island home. My husband is a Civil/Structural Engineering Designer and together we have built and designed our last two homes serving as the general contractors and interior designer/decorator.

I come from a very large family and have 8 siblings (6 sisters and 2 brothers), life was not easy for my family, we were low income and had very little financial assistance, we didn’t have a lot growing up, no fancy house, no beautiful furnishings, no special decor but I think that helped bring out our family’s collective creative talents and for that I am eternally blessed and grateful. I will be sharing some of their talent and projects too!

Another life blessing, I recently retired after 33 years of state service and while I wait for my hubby to retire too, I can now can focus fully on my creative passions and desire to teach others what I have learned along the way. Through hard work and sacrifice we were able to build our semi-retirement home on a nearby Lake, although our ultimate plans are returning to those low country coastal roots when we both fully retire, for now we will continue to enjoy living in our lakeside home. Having the love and support of my husband for the past 35 years is truly GOD’s Blessing……Life would not be the same without him! THANKS for visiting and taking the time getting to know our story, Remember Your Home is Where You Live and You Deserve To Love It!

Thank you, Peggy from Sweet Tea Makery
